“Our family started off in road haulage over 60 years ago, and between us, we’ve bought tipper bodies from Thompsons for a good deal of that time” says Ryan O’Donovan, owner of Enfield-based Ryan O’Donovan Haulage, adding “our three new trucks show that this is a relationship that continues as strong as ever.”
These new ’73’ registered tippers are all 8×4 Volvo FMXs, two built as conventional front-end tippers with single-skin Loadmaster Lite steel bodies, whilst the third is a tipper grab complete with an Epsilon crane, HARSH underfloor gear and a full-spec, double skin heavy duty Loadmaster body. The trucks also come with options that include a name-branded rear end plate with LED reversing lights/strobe warning lights, a tailgate spill deflector and a nearside toolbox to accommodate various in-cab items that would otherwise have been visible through the cab’s nearside door window.
Setting up his own independent tipper business twelve years ago (and therefore entirely separate from the O’Donovan Waste Disposal business that was sold in 2022), the latest three trucks give Ryan a premium quality 16-strong vehicle fleet that can address any customer requirement that comes along.
“In choosing our vehicles, we value versatility and reliability above all else” says Ryan “because it’s these factors that really underpin the overall quality of service that we can offer to our clients. And with tippers, it’s obviously their bodies that take the brunt of the hard work. In a nutshell, we know that Thompsons Loadmasters can easily handle whatever we ask of them.”
Working across Enfield, Tottenham and North London, the Ryan O’Donovan Haulage trucks are variously engaged in site clearance, muckaway and spoil removal, the delivery of aggregates and waste disposal. “No two days are ever the same” says Ryan “so the fleet has to be able to handle each and every job that comes along. This is really where Thompsons’ product quality really shines – they are designed and built for exactly that purpose.”
Ryan is one of the third generation of the O’Donovan family who started their road haulage business in north London way back in 1959. Such a long track record has, in turn, led to an established reputation for professionalism and excellence of service with all types of clients, large and small.
Thompsons is slightly younger, beginning its UK bodybuilding operation in East London in 1972. Built at the company’s extensive site in Croydon, the three new bodies demonstrate not only Thompsons’ unmatched quality of construction but also the unrivalled standard of finish that comes from the company’s recent major investment into its all-new shot-blast and paint facilities.
“We are absolutely delighted to have built these new tippers for Ryan,” says Thompsons Joint Managing Director Scott Burton. “We have been privileged to work with the O’Donovan family for the best part of half a century now, and it’s a working relationship that we value most highly.
Long may it continue! ”
