Wm. Thompson & Son chooses curved floor Multimasters for easiest possible tipping

Latest News | 7th Feb

The latest tippers to join the fleet of Wm. Thompson & Son (Dumbarton) Ltd have all been specified with steel curved floor Multimaster bodies to provide the easiest possible ejection of their loads.

The five new bodies have been fitted to Scania chassis in both 6×4 and 8×4 configurations.

An increasingly popular choice from the market – leading range of tipper bodies made by Thompsons (UK) Ltd, Multimaster is absolutely ideal for tipping wet and sticky loads such as sand, muck and topsoil. Thanks to its particularly smooth, curved floor design there’s minimal opportunity for material to stick inside the body.

Built in top quality steel (although there’s an aluminium version available too) Multimaster is fully able to handle all types of heavier duty loads such as stone, crushed concrete and rubble. And at around 300kgs lighter than a typical 8×4 steel tipper body design, Multimaster is a clear winner for payload too.

“We’ve run Thompsons tipper bodies for many years now” says Alastair Cant, Wm. Thompson’s General Manager. “Our Loadmasters have given really impressive service – we’ve still got some ’57’ registered vehicles running today, with almost ten years hard service behind them. Multimaster is also a proven performer in our fleet, and complements the ultra – heavy duty Loadmasters perfectly.

Running both body types also gives the fleet maximum the versatility to handle any type of job. As a policy, we are always looking to take maximum advantage of new products and technologies as they come along.”

Operating out of the company’s extensive quarry at the Dunglass Roundabout two miles from the Erskine Bridge at the western end of the M8, the 22 – strong Wm. Thompson fleet has never been busier. Currently engaged on intensive short haul work, the new vehicles are loading and tipping over eight times per day.

Speaking for Thompsons UK at its bodybuilding factory in Blackburn, Sales Manager Ian Chaplin notes;

“Multimaster is probably the unsung hero of our range. It’s tough, durable and reliable whilst offering excellent payload potential as well. In particular, it’s the ideal body for operators wanting the cleanest possible ejection of sticky and difficult loads. And by offering a higher angle of tip, Wm. Thompson’s choice of underfloor tipping gears makes that easier still.”

Established back in 1946, Wm. Thompson & Son has always invested heavily in innovation and today provides comprehensive support to Glasgow’s construction industry with services that include supplying quarry products, recycled aggregates and concrete to plant hire and landfill.

Reflecting on his latest trucks Alastair Cant confirms;

“Thompsons bodies have always been at the heart of our fleet, and whilst we’ve run other tippers as well, the fact is that in our experience nothing really equals a Thompsons body for its long term performance, reliability and minimal whole life cost.”
