Blackpool – based Fox Group has given Thompsons the best possible start to 2022 by confirming its latest order for 76 new tippers, all of which will be fitted with Thompsons’ all – steel Loadmaster Lite bodywork.

To be delivered throughout the year, 70 of the new tippers plus a pair of tipper grabs will be split between Fox Brothers’ own fleet and those of Leyland – based Hurt Plant Hire which was acquired by the Group in September 2020. A further two tipper grabs with 3 – way bodies are for JJ O’Grady of Bamber Bridge which Fox also acquired last August. The remaining two bodies are for a pair of fully electric tippers due to go into the Fox fleet in the springtime.

Fox’s Group Workshop Manager Ian Coulton says:

“Thompsons bodies are the natural choice for a major fleet order. Their bodies are not only fully proven for their quality, performance and reliability, but Thompsons is also the only tipper bodybuilder that can offer a complete ‘around – the – clock’ aftersales support service that a company of our size now demands. Thompsons operates on a scale that no other UK tipper bodybuilder can match, and in today’s business environment that’s the level of resource and commitment we really need.”

Fitted to Fox Group’s latest Scania and Volvo chassis, the steel Loadmaster Lite bodies provide an ideal blend of strength and rugged reliability along with a class – leading payload potential. Loadmaster Lite is therefore the ‘Go To’ tipper body for operators wanting a single bodywork solution for vehicles working in every application from heavy duty muckaway and demolition work through to less arduous tasks carrying sand, aggregates and recyclables.

Founded in 1932, Fox Brothers has recently made heavy investments into expanding its activities throughout North West England. The company now operates from 8 sites ranging from Brampton, Cumbria in the north down to Manchester in the south and Anglesey to the west. Accredited to the top level FORS Gold standard, Fox Group now operates over 220 trucks and 400 pieces of plant and machinery.

Managing Director Paul Fox says:

“Together, Fox and Hurt are now one of the leading providers of tipper and plant services in the North West, offering house builders, infrastructure, construction and civil contractors a ‘one stop shop’ for everything they might need.”

Of particular interest, Fox is also set to be the first operator of electric tippers in the UK with a pair of rear steer Volvo FE 6×2 chassis on order, again fitted with Thompsons bodywork. “With zero exhaust emissions and a much quieter engine, these vehicles will be ideal for urban deliveries” says Ian Coulton.

Speaking for Thompsons at its multi-site facility in Blackburn, Joint Managing Director Simon Shields notes:

“As clear leaders in our respective fields, whether in size or the range of services we offer, Thompsons and the Fox Group are a natural fit. Both the Fox Brothers and Clive Hurt operations have already run our tipper bodies for many years, so our products are fully proven.

What also really matters today though is our ability to support customers large or small with genuine 24/7 parts and service backup – and thanks to our continuous, long term investment in these areas only Thompsons can realistically offer that.

In short, Fox Group and Thompsons have created an ideal working partnership that is of enormous value to both parties.”
